A two-villa glamping retreat along a mountain stream in the Okutama valley of Hinohara, western Tokyo. The fully independent villas have a wood-fired private sauna and firepit, the Suite Tent adds a 3m-by-10m pool, and dinner is a self-grilled BBQ on the deck.

A one-group-per-day glamping auberge in the mountains of Yozawa in Akiruno, about an hour from central Tokyo and reached by a 20-minute climb. A dedicated chef serves grill courses of local Akikawa wagyu, and there is a reservable bath, a hideaway sauna with a cold bath, bonfires, plus a camp site and a 150-year-old farmhouse on the same grounds.
