In the fishing village of Tsuma on Okinoshima, Shimane, Hagoromoso is a small 11-room inn that calls itself the lodging closest to the sea in the Oki Islands. Rooms are simply appointed: south-facing sea-view Japanese rooms (8, 10 and 22 tatami) with a full-width window, and twin Western rooms overlooking the village. Free Wi-Fi covers the whole building. The second-floor view bath, Kaikei-no-yu, lets you gaze at the ever-changing sea and sky (sunsets and distant fishing lights), with ancient Oki obsidian set into its walls. Meals centre on a seafood kaiseki chosen by a chef who knows the local catch, with a live Oki snow-crab kaiseki in winter (December-February) and Oki-beef stone-grill among the a la carte options, while breakfast features the signature mozuku porridge with Oki Koshihikari rice. Reached on foot in about 5 minutes from the Kamaya bus stop after landing at Saigo Port; check the official site for rates and availability.
