Medallion Resort Ena is a pair of private villas at Kushihara in Ena, Gifu, for guests travelling with dogs and no one else. Nagoya is about 90 minutes away, central Aichi an hour and a half. Capacity is six.
Each villa occupies 300 square metres, of which more than 200 is the private dog run. It is laid with natural turf, easier on joints, and there is room enough for several dogs at once. Close to each villa there is also a shared run reserved for guests.
The room has a dining space with a kitchen, and a BBQ space stands outside, so you are never separated from your dog. Long leads are lent free of charge for walks through the surrounding country, and pet amenities are provided.
The open-air bath in each villa looks up at the stars. It is an artificial hot spring using natural minerals with strong moisturising properties, and it keeps you warm afterwards.
Meals are built on Gifu produce, eaten in your own dining space either as an in-room meal or a BBQ. You may also bring your own ingredients and grill those.
Nearby is a park connected to the Furuhashi family, sake brewers and village heads of Inabu since the mid-Edo period, and a waterfall eight metres high where the whole flow of the Nagura River, a tributary of the Yahagi, drops at once. Parking is free. Arrival runs from 15:00 to 18:00 and departure is by 10:00.
