A one-group-per-day rental at Moriyama-Matsuura in Fukaura, Nishitsugaru District, Aomori, on the western flank of the Shirakami mountains with the sea in view. It opened in April 2025 and sleeps up to eight.
What marks it out is the kura sauna, built into a traditional storehouse. Saunas of this kind are rare in Japan, and combined with Fukaura itself the experience does not repeat elsewhere.
The Sea of Japan lies directly ahead, and the sun goes down into it. Fukaura is known for its sunsets, and nearby is Senjojiki, a coastline shaped by nature.
There are three bedrooms, reached from the ground-floor living room.
Things to see cluster nearby. Furofushi Onsen is about ten minutes away by car, and the Juniko lakes and Aoike about the same. Juniko Station on the JR Gono line is about three minutes by car, or 15 on foot.You settle in at 15:00 and stay through to 10:00 the next day. Booking through the official site, children aged seven and over pay the adult rate. Rates start at 56,000 yen per night.
