A one-group-per-day private villa on a hill above the Pacific at Akano in Aki, Kochi. The sea opens up in front of you, and the place was built around watching the sun set.
There are two houses. Y1 is the calmer room, suited to families and couples. Y2 is bright and white-based, 190 square metres, with room for a larger group.
The bath uses natural hot-spring water, and a wide window takes in the whole sea. Watching the sun and the water shift colour from the tub is the core of a stay here. Beds are by Serta and hairdryers by ReFa, so the detail has been attended to. Home security is installed.
Meals lean on Kochi produce: Tosa wagyu, Shimanto pork, and Aki's own chirimen-jako whitebait and dried fish, grilled outdoors in the sea air or eaten slowly indoors. Facilities include a pool, a barrel sauna, a wood-burning stove, a kitchen, Wi-Fi, parking and a projector.
Kochi Ryoma Airport is about 20 minutes away by car, and Akano Station on the Gomen-Nahari line about five.
