This whole-house rental sits on a hilltop on Fukue Island in Nagasaki's Goto archipelago, looking out over the sea. Guests have the roomy single floor to themselves, with a garden for BBQ and bonfires and a wooden deck facing the sea. It has a barrel sauna and an open-air bath where you can bathe with a sea view, and lends sauna ponchos and a birch loyly set for free. Meals are courses from the Michelin-listed restaurant Shinsei, using the Goto trio of kelp grouper, spiny lobster and Goto beef (reserve in advance), and a room-only stay is available too. Activities include fishing, a sunset cruise and a stargazing tour. It is about 10 minutes by car from Fukue Port and Goto Tsubaki Airport, and overnight guests can borrow a rental car for free (limited numbers). Note that pets other than guide dogs are not accepted.
