NEST Biwako is a resort villa let whole at Shinbo in Makino, Takashima, Shiga, 200 metres from Lake Biwa. It takes two to five guests, on two semi-double beds with mattresses added for extra guests.
Indoors there is a pool heated to 30 degrees, about 17 square metres. Open the large windows and it becomes a half-outdoor pool. Being heated, it works in any season and children can get in.
There is also a natural hot spring inside, to soak in without anyone else around, and a private sauna.
For food there are two premium BBQ plans; the outdoor version includes steak.
Makino is known for its avenue of metasequoia trees, and the villa makes a base for the lake's water activities. Osaka is about two hours away, and central Nagoya about the same. Rates start at 68,000 yen a night.
