An Eland occupies an entire uninhabited island in Tanabe Bay, Nanki Shirahama, reachable by car and limited to just nine groups a day. The nine ocean-view dome tents (up to 4 guests each) come in four grades, from the forest-backed Hills domes to the Peninsula suites with private infinity jacuzzis, and every dome has its own bathroom, toilet and covered BBQ area. The stay is all-inclusive: a charcoal BBQ dinner of Kumano wagyu and fresh seafood, complimentary drinks at the night bar, barrel and tent saunas, a guests-only private beach, a fire pit and even a Haagen-Dazs buffet. It is about two hours by car from central Osaka, with free shuttle service from JR Shirahama Station and Nanki-Shirahama Airport (reservation required); check the official site for rates and availability.
