LAKE villa CHITOSE opened in August 2025 at Matsubara in Hikone, Shiga, on the shore of Lake Biwa. The villa runs to 182 square metres and sleeps up to twelve.
There are three bedrooms, each with its own concept: Lake, Moon and Sun. The living room holds a modern dining space where the whole party can eat together, and there is an open-air bath.
The villa is built around the idea of receiving your dog as a member of the family. There is no limit on how many dogs come or how big they are: the first two are free, and each additional dog is 3,300 yen including tax. Dogs are welcome on the beds in any of the rooms. There is a dog run as well.
Meals centre on Omi beef, sourced from the local restaurant Ikemoto, served either as yakiniku on the BBQ terrace or as sukiyaki around one table. On request you can also book a visiting chef for Italian, or a sushi chef who works in front of you.
The place has kept changing since it opened. Fencing was renovated in April 2026 and extended around the BBQ space in July, a large trampoline went in during June, and electric shisha rental started in July.
Central Hikone is within walking distance, with Hikone Castle and Kurokabe Square nearby, and the town's fireworks in summer. Rates start at 275,000 yen a night.
