There is a free-flowing open-air hot-spring bath. The water is acidic, mostly colourless or faintly yellow-brown, and tastes sour. Its antibacterial properties are said to help with ringworm, trichomonas and scabies, and taken internally it is used for low or absent stomach acid and hypochromic anaemia. Because it acts strongly on the body, guests are advised to rinse off in the shower after bathing.
Indoors there is a sunken hearth, and BBQ is possible. The kitchen holds nearly everything except the food, so a self-catering stay needs only a reservation. Cook if you want, or just sleep; the house is really meant as a base for the mountains, the river and the lake.
There is no resident caretaker. That is deliberate, to protect guests' privacy: the caretaker waits on site at the check-in time you gave when booking. Changes to that time are made by phone. Pets are not accepted.
Rates run roughly 20,000 to 28,000 yen for the house with three guests or fewer. Additional guests cost 5,000 to 7,000 yen for adults and 3,000 to 3,500 for children, varying by season. Rates were revised in April 2026. Access is by car from Tazawako Station on the Akita Shinkansen.
