A small property in the hills of Biei at Bibaushi-Shinei in Biei Town, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido, taking three groups a day. Three cottages sleep four each, and beyond the windows lie the Daisetsuzan range and the hills of Biei.
Each cottage has a kitchen, Wi-Fi and parking. BBQ equipment rents for 2,200 yen, and bath salts are provided. Of the three, only the Kaze unit accepts pets, at an additional 2,000 to 4,000 yen.
In winter the temperature can drop below minus 20 degrees. In exchange for that cold comes air of a clarity you rarely get elsewhere.
Hokkaido introduced an accommodation tax on 1 April 2026: 100 yen per person per night up to 20,000 yen, and 200 yen above that, children included. Booking through channels other than the official site may make it 200 yen per person per night.
JR Biei Station is about ten minutes away by car and Asahikawa Airport about 20. Rates run roughly 17,000 to 47,000 yen per night depending on season and cottage.
