Angel Forest Shirakawa Kogen is a pet-friendly resort spread across a vast site near Lake Hatori in Tenei, Fukushima, where cottages, rental villas and glamping units are scattered through the woods. The glamping series is the only lodging here where you can enjoy a campfire, offered in four four-person types including a sauna cabin. On site are the pH 9.7 alkaline hot-spring bath "Saiko no Yu," an indoor pool and swimwear spa, the wood-fired "Forest Sauna," and both indoor and natural-grass dog runs, so every room welcomes dogs. Meals range from buffet dinners and breakfasts with fresh-baked bread at the La Pina restaurant to in-room courses of Fukushima-raised beef, and activities include lakeside cycling, canoeing and fishing at one of Japan's largest managed fishing grounds. It is about 30 minutes by taxi from JR Shin-Shirakawa Station, or about 30 minutes from the Shirakawa IC; check the official site for rates and availability.
