A sauna-and-art retreat on the Nasu highlands, created by artfully reviving a closed elementary school. Guests can unwind in the concrete sauna CUBERU, the wood-fired Rekka or a private sauna outside their room, with local-ingredient BBQ, a night museum and gymnasium activities.

In Nasu, Tochigi, Nasu Utopia is a sauna-and-art retreat set in the former Minosawa Elementary School, revived with works by artists from Japan and abroad. Accommodation comes in three types: a Private Sauna Room with a barrel sauna and cold bath on its own terrace, a Glamping villa with a gas BBQ grill on its outdoor living space, and a Class Room that keeps the feel of an old schoolroom, each with a kitchen, fridge and Wi-Fi. The saunas range from the heat-retaining concrete CUBERU and the container-built wood-fired Rekka (each up to eight people, booked privately with self-loyly) to the private sauna outside the rooms, complete with a reused milk-tank cold bath and a sake-barrel goemon bath. Dinner is a BBQ of Nasu Sangen pork, jidori chicken, Yashio trout and the local Benkei-mai rice, and the campus adds an art museum with night viewing, a library, campfires and a gymnasium with ball courts and bouldering.
