Gran Village Setouchi Shimanami is a five-tent private glamping site on the shore of Konoshima, a small island on the Shimanami Kaido next to Ikuchijima in Onomichi, Hiroshima, looking out over the calm Seto Inland Sea. Rooms come in three types: the 7 m Island Dome facing Ikuchijima, the Family Dome with its own athletic pool, theatre set and hammock, and the dog-friendly Dog Run Cocoon (Hiroshima's first cocoon tents), each with a private dog run with agility gear; all have their own bath, toilet and all-weather dining space. Dinner is a locally sourced Shimanami BBQ of Setouchi-beef steak, local sea bream and scallops, with a bring-your-own option. Guests can cycle the Shimanami Kaido, chosen by CNN as one of the world's seven great cycling routes, or enjoy SUP, lemon-picking, campfires and fireworks. It is about 13 minutes by car from the Ikuchijima-Kita IC, or reachable by cruise boat from Onomichi to Setoda port; check the official site for rates and availability.
