Snow Pod sits in the Rusutsu outdoor-resort area of Hokkaido, about 90 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport or Sapporo and 30 minutes from Lake Toya and Niseko, with just three units. Guests stay in one of two 7 m kamakura-style dome tents or a trailer house with a kitchen, living room and loft that suits longer stays; all are fully heated and cooled, with the toilet, shower and washbasin built inside so you stay comfortable even in deep snow. In summer (Golden Week to late November) meals are a local-ingredient glamping BBQ, including a catering BBQ overseen by chef Iijima, while in winter (December to April) there is an Italian course dinner at the adjoining restaurant by reservation, and each unit has its own fire pit from May to November for bonfires under the stars. Activities range from horse riding, rafting and a hot-air balloon to skiing and dog-sledding, and the Kotobuki-no-yu day-use hot spring is a few minutes away by car.
