About two hours by car from Osaka or Kyoto, STAGEX Takashima is a glamping resort on the shore of Lake Biwa in Takashima, Shiga. Around a pond fed by the lake sit four room types: villa-like resort cabins (8 rooms), open dome tents (2), photogenic lotus tents (2), and dog cabins with their own private dog run for staying with your dog (2). Its hallmark is an all-inclusive style covering dinner and breakfast, a sauna, rental cycles and the dog run; you can 'get in the zone' at the sauna floating by the water, savor an Omi fermented-sauce BBQ, gather around a campfire under the stars and help yourself to soft-serve from a local dairy. There is also a large communal bath in the center building. It is about a 10-minute reservation-only free shuttle from JR Shin-asahi Station, or about 1 hour 45 minutes by car from the Kyoto-Higashi IC, with free parking for about 40 cars.
