Lakeside Terrace Biwako is an outdoor spa resort on the western shore of Lake Biwa in Takashima, Shiga, and the first glamping site in the prefecture to give every one of its 18 rooms a private hot-spring bath. The glamping area has 13 units: Lake Domes, Square Safari tents (hammock and ethanol-stove types), dog-friendly Safari tents, and lakeside cottages. The five Spa Suites add a private sauna and, in some, a lake-view bath. Down by the water a roughly 10-metre circular public pool and a barrel sauna are free for guests (swimwear required), and there is an all-inclusive welcome drink service with beer and soft drinks. Dinner is a BBQ of local produce including Omi beef, or bring your own with a rented gas grill, and activities such as SUP, kayaking, smoking and campfires are included. It is about 60 minutes from Kyoto and 90 minutes from Osaka by car, or a 15-minute walk from Omi-Takashima Station; check the official site for rates and availability.
