IMGYA RESORT stands directly in front of Imgya Beach at Tomori in Gusukube, Miyakojima, Okinawa, about 15 minutes by car from Miyako Airport.
Every room has its own pool, with deck chairs set beside it and nobody to disturb you. Inside, chandeliers hang from high ceilings, and when the windows open the living room and the pool become one space, the eye carrying on to the clear blue of Imgya Beach.
The top category, the Royal Suite, is finished in marble with the private pool outside. At over 80 square metres it takes two to four guests, on one bed 220 centimetres wide, with two 90-centimetre beds added for parties of four. Everything from the beds and sofa to the dining table and armchairs has been chosen deliberately.
The other type is 55 square metres for up to three, bookable from two people, with a wide king bed in a quieter, classically elegant room.
Both are non-smoking, with a balcony or terrace, an ocean view, separate bath and toilet, a shower booth, a washlet toilet, free Wi-Fi and free use of the pool.
Amenities are by Guerlain, the French house founded in 1828.
Miyakojima lies about 290 kilometres southwest of the Okinawan main island, roughly three hours from Haneda on a direct flight. Rates start at 160,000 yen a night.
