&SUN Penthouse occupies the top floor of a white house on the shore at Akiya in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, taken as a single floor. The site is about 100 square metres, and the sound of the waves does not stop.
There are four double beds, two of them in lofts. Sleeping under a low ceiling has something of a childhood hideout about it. The living room holds a sofa, a dining table for eight, a Bluetooth speaker and Wi-Fi.
From the terrace you see the horizon and Mt. Fuji, and this is where the BBQ happens. On a clear evening the outline of the mountain rises beyond Sagami Bay.
The kitchen is set up for real cooking: a three-ring induction hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and wine cellar, plus frying pans, pots, a rice cooker, a kettle, a Nespresso machine, a toaster, cutlery, plates and glassware, and salt and pepper.
The two &SUN properties sit on the upper and lower floors of the same building. Book both and you have the whole house, sleeping up to eight adults. With children sharing beds, more than eight is sometimes possible, so ask. On its own this floor sleeps four, with children of ten and over counted as adults.
By bus, take a service toward Sajima Marina, the municipal hospital, Ogusu-Ashina or Nagai, get off at Kuruwa and walk three minutes toward Yokosuka; the white house with parking on the ground floor is on your left. By car, pass through Shonan Kokusai Mura, turn right onto Route 134, and it is a few metres along on the right.The stay begins at 15:00 and ends at 11:00 the following morning.
