A three-groups-per-day villa in Hayama, Miura District, Kanagawa, positioned so that Hayama Park reads as its garden. It is about an hour from the city and two minutes from the sea on foot.
There are three buildings, Akatsuki, Unkai and Minamo, each of two storeys. The interiors differ from one another, drawing on mid-century design. Unkai has two bedrooms.
The site was once the stables of the Hayama Imperial Villa, where members of the imperial family practised riding, and something of that formality sits alongside the calm.
Each villa has a kitchen, free Wi-Fi and one parking space. Large dogs are welcome, and dog amenities are provided.
For food you might visit the chefs who work with vegetables picked that morning and local seafood, or get up early, buy Hayama beef from the long-established butcher and cook in the kitchen, which is very much the Hayama way. On the walk there you pass children's voices, dogs out on patrol, and the smell of breakfast from neighbouring kitchens. Rates start at 67,000 yen per night.
