On the eastern tip of the Itoshima peninsula in Nishi-ku, Fukuoka, Karadomari Village is a campsite you cannot drive into: guests are shuttled from the Karadomari fishery store reception by tuk-tuk (staff carry luggage in by light truck) to a lawn overlooking the Genkai Sea with a large tipi. Sites range from three-tiered hilltop Ocean View pitches to the roomier Ground Site near the central plaza. A white-sand, shallow private beach is 30 seconds away, and a Finnish tent sauna with a cold bath and reclining chairs sits amid the sound of sea and mountains; on weekends there is an all-you-can-drink bonfire tipi bar for guests. Hands-free and bring-your-own camping, day-use BBQ and sauna, and private charters for up to 200 people are all offered, with 24-hour hot showers and pets welcome.
