A Japanese-modern whole-house villa at Kawakami in Yufuin, Yufu City, Oita, about fifteen minutes on foot from the centre of town. Kinrin Lake is also within walking distance, so the bustle of sightseeing sits close by, yet opening the door begins a quieter kind of time. It sleeps up to ten, with six recommended, in a one-bedroom layout plus a loft.
Inside, a kitchen with a through-passage earth floor connects gently into a double-height space: kitchen, living room, tatami room, and the atrium upstairs. The design lets time alone and time together coexist under one roof. The kitchen, continuous with the earth floor, draws people to it naturally. A persimmon tree stands as the garden's marker.
In a corner of the garden is a proper sauna room by DAICHI. It is wood-fired and as quiet in bearing as a tea room. Through glass the nature of Yufuin opens out, and if you listen, the Oita river can be heard running past.
There is a wood stove, BBQ, a full kitchen, Wi-Fi and parking for up to three cars. There is no hot spring on site, and pets are not accepted.Guests are received from 15:00 and depart by 11:00.
