A whole-house lodging at the foot of Yatsugatake in Hara Village, Suwa District, Nagano. In January 2025 it was renamed from Pension Ninjin to Stella Yatsugatake Haramura. Eight bedrooms sleep up to 24.
Wi-Fi runs on a 1 Gbps fibre line, so remote work is feasible. Events, retreats and bringing a pet can all be discussed, which lets the house be used for a range of purposes. Four rooms accept pets, at 1,000 yen per animal.
Summer means hammocks and BBQ away from the heat; winter brings the barrel sauna, the wood stove, a fire and skiing. How you spend time here shifts with the season. Parking takes eight cars.
Hara Village sits at the foot of Yatsugatake, said to have been a mountain higher than Fuji before an eruption split it into eight peaks. A large Jomon-period settlement is thought to have stood in the village, and the Aku site preserves one of the oldest stone circles in Japan. In a 2023 ranking of municipal happiness, Hara Village came first nationally.
JR Fujimi Station is about 14 minutes away by car and Suwaminami IC on the Chuo Expressway about 11.Check-in is between 15:00 and 22:00, with check-out at 10:00. Room-only rates start at 7,000 yen per person on weekdays and 8,500 on the eve of holidays, with a minimum of 70,000 yen for the house.
