asa YATSUGATAKE stands at Yonezawa Kitaoshio in Chino, Nagano, with the Yatsugatake range laid out in front. There are two houses.
Suu, at 180 square metres, sleeps up to eight on six beds, two of them sofa beds. It has a hinoki bath large enough for the family to get in together, and a broad wood deck running out to the sauna building. Haa, at 120 square metres, sleeps up to five on four beds, two of them sofa beds.
The sauna is a private view sauna in natural hinoki, attached to one of the two houses. Sauna ponchos, sauna wear, aroma oils and mats are provided. Between 16:00 and 22:00 there are bookable private slots; you choose your time after arriving.
The kitchen is fully equipped and there is Wi-Fi. A gas BBQ grill must be reserved in advance and costs 4,000 yen per use.
The operator's own farm is five minutes away on foot, with farming experiences announced as they come up.
Check-in is unstaffed. A door code and a check-in code are sent to you the day before. You let yourself in with the number lock, then complete the formalities on a tablet inside.
JR Chino Station is about 15 minutes away by car and Suwa IC on the Chuo Expressway about 20. The Azusa limited express reaches Chino from Shinjuku in about two hours; driving from Tokyo takes about two and a half. Check-in runs from 16:00 to 24:00 and check-out is at 12:00, though plans can differ. Rates start at 102,000 yen a night.
