A whole-house villa in the Wadano forest area at the foot of the Happo-one ski slopes, in Hokujo, Hakuba, Nagano, surrounded by the nature of the Northern Alps.
Bedrooms are on the ground floor, three in all, and the living room is upstairs. The covered terrace running off that living room is the heart of the place. On it sit an open-air jacuzzi, a dining set, a BBQ grill, a theatre system and the sauna. Because it is roofed, it works whatever the season.
The sauna is Finnish, set up for proper loyly. The jacuzzi immediately beside it doubles as a shower and a cold bath, and after the sweat you stretch out on the outdoor sofa on the terrace to cool off. The whole sequence completes without moving anywhere.
With a BBQ grill and a dining set to hand, eating outdoors can be done properly. There are two shower rooms and a kitchen.
Access is by car from Hakuba Station. Rates start at 135,000 yen per night.
