Vigan Ocean Villa sits on a cape in Oyano, Kamiamakusa, Kumamoto, ringed by calm water and about an hour by car from central Kumamoto. It is rented whole to one group of up to five.
The building is an orange two-storey house with rooms styled after southern Provence and a spiral staircase that catches the eye. From the balcony you look across the Ariake Sea and the islands scattered in it; the sea is visible from indoors too, with the surrounding trees screening the house naturally.
An open-air bath sits on the balcony. There is a fire pit in front of the entrance for a campfire, and the terrace takes a BBQ. The kitchen is equipped for real cooking, so meals are generally your own. A sea sauna is available nearby.
Inside there is a sofa and a piano. Read, play a few notes, or do neither. Parking for two cars is directly in front of the house.
Rates run from 46,000 to 55,000 yen on weekdays and 50,000 to 59,000 yen on the night before a holiday.
