Private villas on high ground overlooking Mizutoko Bay at Shishikuiura in Kaiyo Town, Kaifu District, Tokushima. There are only two, Tenran and Satsuki; Satsuki stands at the western end of the site.
Past the streets of Shishikui, turning off Route 55 onto the road that runs down to the sea, there is a tunnel of trees, and the villas lie beyond it. The property suggests starting with the view from the room and the outdoor bath, to wash off the journey.
At night the stars come out. With the shops closed and Shishikui gone quiet, stargazing is a way to spend the evening; it needs to be arranged in advance. Lying in bed you hear wind, insects and waves.
There is a cooking space, so self-catering works. Restaurants nearby close early, which is worth planning around. A washer-dryer, a fridge and a microwave make longer stays practical. Breakfast is house-baked bread from the affiliated Umibe no Pan Kobo Hana.
Shishikui Station on the Asa Coast Railway is about 15 minutes away on foot. By car, come from Naruto IC; Cape Muroto is about 40 km to the south. Rates start at 58,000 yen per night.
