AMAO VILLA Izu Kogen stands among the greenery of Izu Kogen in Ito City, Shizuoka. The design is modern Japanese and the grounds run to 300 tsubo. It sleeps twelve across four bedrooms.
The ground floor holds a Japanese-Western room, a Western room and a tatami room, with another Western room upstairs. Bedding comes to one queen, one double, three singles and five futon sets. The upstairs Japanese-Western room has a large bed your dog can share, built low so it can get on and off by itself.
Dogs are welcome anywhere in the house: balcony, living room, dining room, bedrooms, all of it. There is no limit on how many stay, so friends can bring their dogs together. On the grounds is a dog run laid with natural turf, reserved entirely for your party.
Indoors there is a stone-built hot-spring bath. On the terrace stands an imported gas grill, and the living room's large window opens onto the dog run, so you can grill while the dogs play. There is a fire pit in the garden, set apart from the dog run so the animals stay safe while you sit around the flames.
Inside there is a 120-inch screen with 5.1-channel surround sound, plus an induction kitchen and Wi-Fi. Parking takes three cars: two on the property, one on the road directly in front.
From Nagaizumi-Numazu IC on the Shin-Tomei Expressway head toward Izu; Izu Kogen is about 40 minutes on from Shuzenji. From Atami it is about 60 minutes south on Route 135. Jogasaki-Kaigan Station on the Izukyu line is about ten minutes' walk, and Futo and Izu-Kogen stations are about ten minutes away.Rooms open at 16:00 and must be left by 10:00. Rates start at 126,000 yen a night.
