A whole-house cottage in the holiday-home district of Goishigahama in Minami-Izu, Kamo District, Shizuoka. Its exterior recalls a southern European resort, and it looks down on a holiday district that feels foreign and on the sea off Minami-Izu and Shimoda.
The living-dining room runs to 20 mats, and a high raked timber ceiling gives it the openness of a resort cottage. The kitchen, continuous with the dining area, is large enough for everyone to join the cooking, with a laundry set to one side.
There are two bedrooms. The six-mat twin room has the calm of a mountain lodge. The eight-mat tatami room holds four futons with mattresses, and dappled light comes in softly. The bathroom is finished in Izu stone and hinoki, with the changing and wash areas entirely in cypress.
On the terrace by the entrance you can BBQ with the sea in view. Use of the gas grill is free. Indoors there is a Nintendo Switch with several games, which covers the weather.
Dogs are welcome: two small ones or one medium, at 1,100 yen per night. Free Wi-Fi and two free parking spaces are provided. Access is by car from Izukyu-Shimoda Station.You settle in at 15:00 and stay through to 11:00 the next day. Rates start at 30,000 yen per night.
