Set among the satoyama hills of Mashiko, Tochigi, this glamping site takes only two groups a day, so each dome tent (up to four guests) feels private, and guests can also use the facilities of the adjoining Mashiko-kan Satoyama Resort Hotel. Dinner is a choice between a glamping BBQ and a satoyama kaiseki course, featuring Mashiko vegetables, handmade sausages and the Tochigi wagyu brand Nasunogahara beef; a stay-only course lets you bring your own food to grill under the roofed BBQ space, usable even in the rain. Bathing is in the natural hot spring bijin-no-yu, with a spacious indoor bath and an open-air bath looking out over the hills, and dog-friendly plans provide a crate, bowls and other pet items. It is about 20 minutes by car from the Moka IC or 15 from the Sakuragawa-Chikusei IC, or a two-minute bus ride from Mashiko Station; check the official site for rates and availability.
