A whole-house private villa inside Aso-Kuju National Park, which holds one of the world's largest calderas, in Minamiaso, Aso District, Kumamoto. There is only one house, a single-storey building taken by one group per day, so nothing around you needs thinking about.
The name Mone carries the wish that guests build their hours carefully in Aso's quiet forest. The building is single-storey out of respect for the Aso landscape, designed to answer its surroundings.
Four bedrooms stand fully separate. There is a long dining table seating eight adults and a terrace for BBQ. You look out on a garden that carries the seasons, wrapped in forest, the sound of the stream and birdsong. There is one bathroom.
Aso Kumamoto Airport is about 30 minutes away by car, and hot springs, spring-water sites, a theme park and cafes are scattered nearby. Rates run about 40,000 yen on weekdays for two guests and 50,000 on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of holidays, outside peak periods. Bookings are taken on the official site and through Airbnb.
